Who is nibbling at my little house?
Whole Foods Market at the Quarry, 255 E. Basse, invites you to help decorate their Gingerbread House on Saturday, December 17, from noon- 2 p.m. Children of all ages can decorate a gingerbread version of the Whole Foods façade with all-natural munchies, including nuts, dried fruit, candy, and chocolate, and afterward, have their photo taken in front of the finished product. The Village of Bulverde Farmer’s Market sets up its wares in the parking lot of Vintage Wine & Coffee Bar, 2295 Bulverde, each Saturday from 3-6 p.m. The Market features locally grown, insecticide-free fruits and vegetables, as well as other items, such as soy candles, goat’s milk lotion for hands and feet, and herbal tinctures. Paesanos Bakery, 555 E. Basse, has a new head baker, Margaret McDaniel. McDaniel hails from Dallas, where she owned and operated her own catering company, La Bonne Femme Catering. She has spent time training in Alsace-Lorraine, France, where she says, “good living is an everyday event,” and she learned to bake the local specialties such as apple tart and kugelhopf, a rich, almond-flavored sweet bread.
Throughout December, McDaniel is busy creating holiday treats to accompany the bakery’s usual Artisan breads and pastry, including a pull-apart cinnamon wreath, and Bouche de Noel, a chocolate sponge cake roulade that is dabbed with Kahlua for richness and moisture, and then rolled in mocha cream and glazed with chocolate ganache. White chocolate and marzipan mice sit among the holly leaves and berries decorating its branches. For more information, call 826-5854.
