News and notes from the San Antonio food scene
The True Lime/True Lemon people keep calling. They sent us a box of each, they remind our receptionist when we fail to come to the phone. Their anecdotal evidence shows people drink several more glasses of water a day when they use True Lemon/Lime, they add. They’d like to know what we think, they politely email. OK: True Lime gets an “A.” It’s tasty dissolved in water, very true to flavor and aroma, and has caused one person on staff to drink signficantly more water each day (although she frets that it might be the adult equivalent of Lucas and checks her tooth enamel every evening for signs of thinning). Lemon we don’t like as much plain, but it beats storing cut citrus fruit at work, so it’s handy to have in the desk for ice tea. (It might be particularly good in the Republic of Tea’s Ice Tea Squares, available at Central Market, which contain 96 ounces of ready-to-drink tea. If it’s good enuff for wine ...) Made in large part from crystallized lemon and lime juices and oils, each .7 gram packet contains 0 calories and 25 percent of the daily Vitamin C requirement. Available at Whole Foods and other retailers, or via the website, Truelemon.com.
