Let's make room for an exploration of rums at Azuca Nuevo Latino (713 S. Alamo St., 210-225-5550). Crafted by chef Rene Fernandez, the Latin Rums and Flavors dinner will be held on Thursday, August 27 at 7 p.m. The menu will include cuisine from Caribbean countries and will be paired with daiquiris, mojitos and other rum-based 'tails. Over at Hotel Emma, part of the culinary line up has been announced. John Brand, formerly the Area Executive Chef for Omni Hotels and Resorts who has spent time at The Little Nell in Aspen, Keswick Hall in Charlottesville, and the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, is the culinary director for the hotel and will oversee production at Supper, the hotel restaurant; Larder, the in-house market and cafe; and the Sternewirth bar. Hugh Daschbach rounds out the team of the boutique hotel as Culinary Concierge. You can meet all of these fancy faces this coming fall as the Roman & Williams designed hotel opens.
Those in need of Friday night plans can head down to Nectar Wine Bar & Ale House (214 Broadway) for a chance to mix and mingle with winemaker Jeff Mausbach of Malbec 55. Maubach will be on-hand, pouring vinos and chatting about everything wine, tonight starting at 7 p.m.
