Whilst navigating a culinary #cityontherise, where getting tossed delectable dishes like green pea pound cake and foie gras sweet treats has become commonplace, it's easy to lose sight of simple pleasures. It's easy to forget that you can go to a dinky place on Fredericksburg and have a badass experience on the cheap.

Welcome to Snow Monkey Shaved Ice.

I was hesitant to write about this place because I like the idea of keeping it to myself, free from the clutches of urbanites, but I am trying to be a better person these days and this seemed like a good place to start.

Parking is a little sparse; I usually park on the side of the building toward an interesting-looking burger place with a bunch of neon lights across from the auto body shop, but I haven't had trouble finding a spot. Get everything here your stoner heart desires: snow cones, Mexican candies, corn in a cup, strawberries and cream, and/or chamoy for days.

The flavor possibilities on the raspa side are seemingly endless, with flavors such as "wedding cake" and a natural flavor selection including tamarindo and coconut.

My go-to is the natural coconut and adding ice cream, but they also mix and match flavors into one cup so you can get all frisky with a blue bubble gum/Granny Smith apple concoction if that tickles your fancy. Or add condensed milk to anything, and holy shit, I am about that life.

If you want something a little less sweet, try the classic mango flavor topped with chamoy. My favorite snack was definitely the Hot Cheetos and cheese, served straight out of the bag as the Food Lord intended. I know this is not a new thing for most people, but I implore you to try it if you haven't. I have to indulge when available.

There was room for improvement in the watery and flavorless corn in a cup. When all was said and done, I got strawberries and cream, corn in a cup, Hot Cheetos and cheese and four raspas with all the fixins for $15. As my friend and Snow Monkey partner-in-crime so eloquently exclaimed as we shoveled goodness into our mouths, "This is hitting the spot on a very personal level."

If that doesn't prompt you to give this little gem a shot, you are a damn fool and I don't know what kind of lame stuff you like but we probably can't ever be friends.
