Nail art will have a new meaning on September 15 as French & Michigan Projects hots its first fundraiser in support of Jennifer Ling Datchuk’s upcoming publication release in 2019.
Salon Night on September 15 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. will feature nail artists Kaitlyn Rex, owner of GLAZE Nail Lounge, and her colleague Sarah Tan, offering a full gel manicure with custom nail decals designed by Datchuk.
The publication will feature Datchuk's “Dark and Lovely” “Blackwork” and “Girl You Can," as well as essays by several authors including Datchuk's brother on growing up Asian-American.
"It was important for my publication to happen now in the time of me too. My work has always discussed the female body, standards of beauty, and acknowledgement of the experiences of the other. We are at a reckoning part of time in the world and a publication solidifies these moments and gives the messages in work access to those who can’t see it," said Datchuk.
The nail decals featured for the evening, by LA's Cha Cha Covers, will include Datchuk's work such as blue and white pattern of the Venus of Willendorf, peaches, uteruses, and more. Datchuk will be on hand during the event that guarantees an "evening of Champagne, macarons from Bakery Lorraine, and, of course, bonding with fellow power ladies (and men!).
Tickets for the evening are $5o and include the gel manis (so sadly, you can't get the boss bitch acrylics featured); attendees must be F&M Subscribers to attend ($100). Location is shared after tickets are purchased.
