Wine Olympics

These Olympic games don't need underwater security, there are no doping scandals, and chances are, the electricity won't go out.

The San Antonio Wine Olympics continues, traveling to Encino Grill, 12656 West Ave., on Thursday, July 29 from 7-9pm. Judges and audience members will evaluate Dry Rosés RSVP: Daniel Brooks at 403-2048.

Chardonnays will vie for top honors when the competition moves to Milano's Italiano Ristorante, 11838 Wurzbach, on Thursday, August 5, from 7-9pm.

Sponsored by SA's National Wine Unclub and Fine Spirits Emporium, the Wine Olympics selects a type of wine each week for the double-blind tests. Participants - a panel of judges and the audience - sample various nations' offerings and rank them, awarding gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Last month, 2003 Honig Napa Valley won a gold medal among the Sauvignon Blancs; 1999 Schramsberg Blanc de Blanc also took top honors in the Blanc de Blanc Bubblies.
