Gay Fiesta 2010

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2010-10-06

Twenty-seven years ago, SA’s LGBT community woke up (possibly to the smell of Chanel No. 5) and realized it needed its very own Fiesta. This yearly celebration trades bedazzled concho belts for stiff leather harnesses and pastel-colored Polos (stretched tightly over tamale babies waiting to exhale) for, well, no shirts at all. It’s not all drag. The lineup for the 28th Annual Gay Fiesta includes: Dat Gurl Netta (an up-and-coming hip-hop artist and nominee at this year’s Southern Entertainment Awards), local indie-pop cuties the Sound of Curves (hopefully none of them will be inappropriately pinched), and the Alamo City Men’s Chorale (40 well-dressed gents the last time we counted). But what would Gay Fiesta be without drag? 2010 Queen of Gay Fiesta Veronica Martinez (aka Miss Roni) holds royal court with co-hostesses Autumn Summers, Safonda St. John, and Kourtney Deveraux, and countless guest divas, including Lawanda Jackson, Shady Lady, Taryn Taylor, Lyn-Z-Lang, Layla Larue, and Odysea Raven. $8, 12-10pm, San Antonio Events Center, 8111 Meadow Leaf, (210) 402-0269,
