Jazz, TX, located in the basement of the bottling department at the Pearl, makes you feel as though you’ve stepped into another decade. The club is dark and romantic. The only lighting coming from the glowing neon sign and the faint radiance of the bar, one can’t help but be reminded of the club from La La Land when entering the beautiful bar. The upscale basement club isn’t just serving a beautiful atmosphere, they have a food and drink menu that rivals that of the surrounding restaurants and bars. While going for an evening set can break the bank for one on a budget, Jazz, TX has started offering happy hour special for those wanting the experience without high costs.

Venturing down the stairs to the bar anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday saves you from the cover charge, which usually ranges anywhere from $10 to $25. In addition to a complimentary cover, you can grab a ‘Bout That Time cocktail (a concoction made with tequila, strawberry black peppercorn shrub, lime, and topped with Topo) for $5. The cocktail is perfect for the summertime, the shrubs gives a slight sweetness and brings beautiful color to the drink. If you’re hungry you can grab the chips and queso for $5, as well. Full chunks of chorizo, the queso has the perfect bit of spice and heat to combat the sugar in the cocktail.

The crowd at the club varies from couples that are reminiscing of a time when jazz clubs were in abundance, to those that are new to the speakeasy scene. When you go, be sure to reserve a table. It comes at no extra cost, and you can ensure that you get a great view of the band. Be prepared for couples to get up and dance to the music once the band starts playing. Though the happy hour is only from 5 to 7, you can stay past the cut off time, just be wary that you will be charged a cover come 8:30 with the evening set.
