- Gina Ortiz Jones is running against U.S. Rep. Will Hurd in what could be one of the nation's costliest races.
Ortiz Jones, a former air force intelligence officer, was one of nine Texas Democrats seeking national or state office to win Obama's endorsement. None of the others is running in South Texas.
Today, I’m proud to endorse even more Democratic candidates who aren’t just running against something, but for something—to expand opportunity for all of us and to restore dignity, honor, and compassion to public service. Jones could use the endorsement. Although Hurd is one of Democrats’ top targets this election cycle, he's got a modest lead in at least one poll and has played to the middle by calling out President Trump on the border wall and his "zero-tolerance" immigration policy.
