Critic's Pick Release Date: 2010-08-04

The Book of Job becomes comedic fodder in God’s Favorite, a Neil Simon play set in a Long Island mansion (thoughtfully relocated to the Dominion for this production). For those who don’t remember what’s been called “the most profound and literary work in the entire Old Testament,” Job loses everything — his children, his riches, and his health — in a cruel bet Satan makes with God. In the play, a messenger from God (film buff Sidney Lipton) arrives at the home of Joe Benjamin, a rich tycoon whose standing as God’s favorite servant is put to the test. $32, cocktails at 6:15pm, dinner at 6:30pm, curtain at 8pm, Harlequin Dinner Theater, Bldg. 2652, Harney Rd., Ft. Sam Houston, (210) 222-9694, fortsamhoustonmwr.com.
