The Goo Goo Dolls are worth seeing in 2016. Now, now… Hear me out. This pop/alt-rock band, which was actually formed in 1986, is a quintessential 1990s radio band. With the recent waves of 1990s nostalgia, it is no surprise that the Goo Goo Dolls are touring extensively, but it’s also worth noting that they never really stopped. While you may think of them as a one-hit-wonder (remember the once ubiquitous ballad “Iris?”), the group has actually released 11 studio albums — five since the year 2000 — including this year’s effort Boxes. While there is nothing experimental or groundbreaking about the band (presently or probably ever), lead man John Rzeznik is a good songwriter, splitting his time (especially of late) between power ballads and alt-rock anthems. Plus, the band will totally be playing both “Iris” and “Black Balloon.” What more do you people want?
