Grand Opening in Southtown: Lisa Astorga-Watel's Bite

The culinary action just doesn't seem to stop in Southtown.   Bite, a new venture by Lisa Astorga-Watel, wife of Damien Watel (Bistro Vatel, Bistro Bakery, Cafe des Artistes), launches its grand opening today, Wednesday October 17, with an eclectic menu with a "70's modern twist." Look for smaller (but not tapas-sized, we're told) portions of Euro-fare and reasonable prices: steak tartare and toast, $18; salmon cuadrado, $16; octopus carpaccio, $14 are a few items on today's menu of a dozen offerings, which also includes a lobster springroll with an entire lobster tail, $15. Astorga-Watel was trained at The Culinary Art Institute in Houston, and was a private chef for celebrities before marrying. Given husband Damien's celebrity chef status, expect local glitterati to gnosh at this new late night hangout.

Bite, 5-10pm Wed, 5pm- Midnight Thu-Sat, 1012 S Presa, (210) 532-2551,
