Group Famous for '90s Hit 'The Freshman' Playing the Tobin Center

Another week, another 1990s nostalgia act coming through town: the Verve Pipe.

While those who are old enough to remember the band at all mostly remember them as a one-hit wonder, with 1996’s “The Freshman” charting at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remaining a quintessential 1990s grunge-pop track, the band has remained pretty active over the years (save for a mostly dry stretch between 2001 and 2013). Since the band’s debut, the Verve Pipe has failed to capture the success or the magic of that first album, but flashes of what made that effort so good have always remained.

So, whether it’s out of nostalgia or for a chance to see “The Freshman” live or out of sheer curiosity, this is a show worth checking out.

$27.50-$55, Wed Sept 12, 7:30pm, Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, 100 Auditorium Circle,
