Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda Gives South Texas and Beto a Shoutout on Twitter

Hamilton creator and Broadway phenomenon Lin-Manuel Miranda jumped on Twitter yesterday to urge fans and family in South Texas — where he has roots — to vote for Democratic senate hopeful Beto O'Rourke.

Miranda tweeted a photo with his father Luis A. Miranda Jr., both wearing Beto t-shirts, and added the hashtag #BETOnIt. "For all my family in Houston, Dallas, Corpus Christi and all over Texas: *Bet On It theme from High School Musical 2 plays,*" he wrote.

(A little disappointment he didn't mention San Antonio, but we'll live, right?)

Thousands retweeted or liked the post since it went live at 11:30 a.m., and a number responded with selfies of themselves in their Beto shirts. Others grilled Miranda about where he had family in the Lone Star State.

"I am Puerto Rican and Mexican, friend," he tweeted. "I have family *stretches arms* E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E."
The Pulitzer Prize-winner has emerged as one of Broadway's biggest stars with the runaway success of Hamilton and In the Heights, both of which he wrote, scored and starred in. He's also starring in the movie Mary Poppins Returns, scheduled for release in December.
