Supergroup of chick-pickers ready to turn up the heat at Casbeers
The term "supergroup" usually conjures images of over-the-hill rock congloms whose sum is less than its parts. Yes, we mean Asia.
But in the case of Henhouse - Rosie Flores, Cindy Cashdollar, Sarah Brown, and Lisa Pankrantz - the word supergroup is truth in advertising.
Flores, who grew up on West Mistletoe near Woodlawn Lake, is among roots music's hottest guitarists with more than a half-dozen CDs to her credit, including Single Rose, Speed of Sound, Rockabilly Filly, and the remastered Bandera Highway.
Cashdollar, (yes, it's her real name) is one of country music's finest steel guitar and Dobro players. In addition to credits on albums by Bob Dylan, Leon Redbone, and Beausoleil, Cashdollar spent eight years touring with Asleep at the Wheel.
The two pickers will be backed by an equally adept rhythm section of Austin-based R&B bassist and songwriter Brown, who's played or recorded with Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, and Dr. John, and drummer Pankrantz, who backed Sleepy LaBeef and Billy Joe Shaver, among others.
Henhouse performs at Casbeers, 1719 Blanco, Thursday, October 28 at 8 p.m.
