Edwin Jermain Stewart was caught at the scene following the fire, but was not arrested, according to Houston's KPRC. The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office prepared a case against Stewart that led to his arrest.
Stewart's actions came after getting into an argument with Jerome Lockett, the dog's owner. Stewart set fire to the dog house at Lockett's home while a 5-year-old pit bull named Truck was inside.
Truck survived the attack, but the veterinarian who treated him said he was burned on more than half of his body. He was unable to escape the burning structure since he was chained as well.
Stewart was charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal, which is a third-degree felony.
