Ian Moore & Buttercup

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2011-03-03

Austin-raised singer-songwriter Ian Moore may call Seattle home these days, but Texans will always claim the blues-rock guitar guru as one of their own — as they should. Moore, who is known for his distinct fusion of Southern soul, blues, pop, and gospel, honed his guitar chops on the Austin circuit and caught a break as a hired gun for Joe Ely in the early ’90s. A slew of well-received album releases by Moore in the ’90s and early 2000s took him to the edge of celebrity. But Moore took the road less traveled, sticking to his creative ideals and choosing artistic freedom over commercial success. It has served him exceptionally well. Moore’s loyal following shows up whether he plays full-band gigs or scales it down to solo acoustic performances (my personal favorites) both in the U.S. and abroad, and his utterly amazing live show is never the same twice. Moore hits the Alamo City with his band the Lossy Coils this go-round for the power trio’s release of El Sonido Nuevo, Moore’s seventh studio recording. SA’s Buttercup and Marcus Rubio open. $12/$14, 7pm, White Rabbit, 2410 N St. Mary’s, (210) 737-2221,
