When: Fri., July 20, 8-11 p.m. 2018
When our governments, social networks and ideologies fail us — which they sure as fuck are right now — it is often writers and poets, rather than philosophers or politicians, who see the way forward. With a nearly mystical sense of knowing the world, down to its last sinew, by its original names, poets seem especially adept at piercing the veil of the status quo in search of something more. This special reading and talk will allow the general public to receive just such direction from three celebrated writers: Martín Espada (renowned poet, activist and professor), Debra Monroe (award-winning author of fiction and memoir) and Veronica Golos (acclaimed poet). The topical focus for the event, a Gemini Ink Writer’s Conference affair that is open to all, will find these important thinkers navigating the murky waters at the heart of our national identity crisis.
