Indie Pop Star Mac DeMarco Brings Gently Psychedelic Tunes to the Tobin

  • Coley Brown
Ever the provocateur as a performer and persona, young Canadian indie pop oddball Mac DeMarco makes gently psychedelic music that is magnetic, groovy and relatable. At only 28 years old, DeMarco has become a bonafide star, winning fans over the course of nine releases (LPs and EPs) in as many years. He’s also been touring relentlessly, honing his folky, jangly, lo-fi pop-rock sound and delivering it to growing legions of young fans for whom his strange and often beautiful explorations hit the sweet spot between alien and comfortable. His most recent album, 2017’s This Old Dog, is easily his finest to date, displaying his continued blossoming as a multi-faceted songwriter and pop mastermind.

On Friday, he’ll be performing a special solo show in town, and it’s really no surprise that the affair is already sold out. Devotees of Macadelia, however, will no doubt wanna check Stub Hub for whatever’s available – it’ll probably be worth it.
