Contemporary Art Month presents a performance and sound installation by Zurich-based artist Jason Kahn. Kahn’s work as a musician began with his involvement in the post-punk, jazz-funk L.A. group Universal Congress Of during the late ’80s, after which he moved overseas and delved into the more meditative waters of free improv. Kahn often works to reveal the hidden sounds in urban environments using carefully placed mics, and his installations are created for specific spaces. Salon Mijangos dirctor Ben Judson said the installation is exceptionally timely, as renowned sound artists Bill Fontana and Max Newhouse are currently exhibiting work also — Fontana’s River Walk installation will open within the next year, and Newhouse’s final permanent installation was completed at the Merill Collection in Houston last year. Kahn’s public sound installation, titled “San Antonio Beauty College,” will remain viewable from the street through Luminaria on March 14. $8, 8pm, San Antonio Beauty College, 505 E. Travis, (210) 212-9147.
