King Pelican to Play at Lowcountry

  • Clem Spalding
As Lowcountry, the quaint little watering hole just south of La Villita, continues to come into its own, its musical offerings are getting better and more frequent. Saturday’s show, for instance, is not only an excellent pairing of local bands, but both acts seem to suit the venue’s frill-free mood exceedingly well.

San Antonio’s King Pelican is an instrumental surf dynamo with vamping riffage and a knack for loose compositions that boast jazz-like interplay between instruments. Recently, as if the band’s chops were ever up for debate, King Pelican has been winning whole new sets of fans, playing with local rock 'n' roll icon Rudy Tee.

Also on the bill, The Lucky Odds are a classic rockabilly group, the likes of which might seem right at home in a Quentin Tarantino flick.
