Koch Ranches Will Launch Alamo Heights Farmers Market in Familiar Spot

June 18 will mark the launch of a new farmers market in the area, but farm-savvy San Antonians are already familiar to the location.

"There's been a need for one there for quite some time," says Anthony Koch, owner of Koch Ranches, which is putting on the market.

The location? The former home of the Quarry Ranchers and Farmers Market in front of Whole Foods Market. The Quarry Ranchers and Farmers Market lost its lease at the Alamo Quarry in late 2014. It was renamed The Market at the Yard after finding a home off McCullough, but was later marred by a dispute between market owners Heather Hunter and F. David Lent and vendors that involved racial slurs, and the market fizzled.

The new Alamo Heights Farmers Market will feature 25 vendors to start including Parker Creek Ranch, Organic Chix, 3G Farms, 9 to 1 Farm, Engel Farms, Farm to Juice and Koch Ranch.

The market will run Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 255 E. Basse Road.
