La Cantera Announces Lineup To Spring Jazz At The Falls Series

  • Joe Turner

Now in its fifth year, the Spring Jazz at The Falls series will return to La Cantera for four nights of effortlessly smooth jazz. Bring the blankets and chairs, but leave the coolers, for these free shows in March and April beginning at 7:30 p.m at The Falls, between Z Tejas Grill and The Yard House in La Cantera.

Tom Braxton (Saturday, March 28)
Lubbock native and saxophonist Tom Braxton wields a pure and mellow tone, improvising over R&B beats. On his 2014 album The Next Chapter, Braxton delivered his best work yet, picking up keyboardist Bob James, an early innovator in the smooth genre.

Melina (Thursday, April 2)
From San Antonio, R&B/jazz singer Melina has appeared at the Divas of Jazz festival, the Texas Jazz Society Festival and performed the National Anthem at several Spurs games, booming in her confident talent.

Ken Slavin (Thursday, April 9)
Jazz crooner Ken Slavin works in the tradition of Tony Bennett and Ol' Blue Eyes, playing with the standards on his 2013 live album You Gotta Have Heart.

Eric Marienthal (Saturday, April 11)
Saxophonist Eric Marienthal boasts a long and illustrious career, beginning with NOLA trumpeter Al Hirt before becoming part of the Chick Corea Elektric Band, winning two Grammys during his time with the iconic keyboardist. Outside of Jazz, Marienthal has worked with David Lee Roth, Aaron Neville, Billy Joel and Elton John as a hired reed.
