Celebrating 15 years of bringing authors, artists, scholars and performers to St. Mary’s University and the San Antonio community, the Las Americas Letters Series returns this weekend with a program dedicated to Brother Cletus Behlmann, S.M. (1933-2016), a Marianist brother who “made life more meaningful through his vibrant, colorful works of art.” Following the theme “Unfolding Symbol Through Time: The Power of Symbol in Literature and Art,” the series kicks off on Friday with viewings of inter-media artist Gerry Frost’s Still Life Still, a video series “focused on the tradition of still life and symbolism” (4-9pm). After a welcome ceremony (6pm), Frost joins 2013 Texas Poet Laureate Rosemary Catacalos for the panel "Symbol in Art, Literature and Religion," to be followed by readings from Catacalos and writer/musician/Wings Press publisher Bryce Milligan. On Saturday, attendees can return to view Frost’s Still Life Still (9am-3pm).
