Decades in the making, the Hawks (of Holy Rosary) began as the punk rock project of two best buds, Frank Weysos and Chuck Hernandez. Named in part for the local academy that the childhood friends attended many moons ago, the self-described "no-wave" band is a homegrown tangle of high energy pop hooks and spontaneous harmonies. After signing with Texas is Funny Records – San Antonio's little label that could – the group debuted with the insanely catchy What Team Am I On? in 2014. Deceptively simple tracks like "Fuck My Way to the Top" grow on you like the first time you smoked a cigarette; there's a jarring first puff that quickly transforms into a disarmingly pleasant vice. Check 'em out with Ypsilanti, Michigan's Minihorse at Limelight. 9pm, $5, Limelight, 2718 N. Saint Mary's
