Too emotive, listenable, and broadly-appealing to be math-rock sticklers, and too precise and geeky about their angular sonics to be indie rock darlings, the four dudes in Televangelist seem content to straddle the line. The band’s melodic, progressive rock sound has expanded with each of its three releases, culminating with last year’s excellent LP Wild, Jealous, Youth. This Saturday, before heading out on the road to win glory and spoils unending, Televangelist will celebrate the kick off of a 17-date western tour. It’s a frequent refrain around these parts that bands need to get out on the open road to truly test their mettle—here’s your chance to wish Televangelist well, as they head off to do just that. For a primer on the band’s propulsive music, head on over to $5.00, 7:00pm, Ventura, 1011 Avenue B, (210) 802-6940. — JC
