Local 782 is not the only organization making an effort to unite and help the local music scene. Since 1998, the Texas Music Coalition (which held its latest General Meeting and Open Mic April 19 at Olmos Bharmacy) has been doing its part to support a scene not directly covered by other, similar groups. And to have at least two serious organizations promoting local music in their respective arenas is good for any music community. Go to and to see what’s a better fit for you and your music. If you can support both, that’s even better.

In other news, we congratulate the 2011 recipients of the San Antonio Blues Society scholoarships Steven S. Sellers Jr. ($1,000), Julia K. Masters ($500), and Mitch P. Moser ($500), who were presented with their checks April 17 at Sunset Station. Lastly, don’t miss the SABS open Local Blues Jam at Sam’s on Wednesday, April 27, as part of Local Music Week.
