Begun in 2011, SA’s chapter of PechaKucha, Japanese for “chit-chat,” has
provided a uniquely vibrant space for all manner of accomplished and passionate folks to share their interests, their expertise, and their inspiration.
The PechaKucha rules, first developed in Japan, are delightfully straightforward: Presenters share and discuss 20 slides each, which are each shown for only 20 seconds, for a total of six minutes and 40 seconds per presentation. For attendees, the fast-moving and concise format allows for an easy grasp of material and cuts back on natural tendencies toward losing focus. The eight presenters for Volume 27 are Lilly Gonzalez (San Antonio Book Festival communications
director and book nerd), Charlie Biedenharn (Bakery Lorraine co-owner), William Jack Sibley (novelist, playwright, journalist), Nathan Felix (composer and music director with an unconventional approach to contemporary
composition and performance), Magaly Chocano (digital entrepreneur, founder/CEO of Sweb Development), Patty Ortiz (artist and curator), Vincent Quaranto (photographer and roller-skating enthusiast), Kellen Walker (artist who creates performances, installations, objects and perfumes).
