In “Luchadores,” Lainez juxtaposes life-sized of everyday local Hispanics with colorful paintings of luchador wrestling masks, creating a commentary on Hispanics as fighters. Lainez, who moved here from Spain in 2012, is troubled that inidivduals reject whole classes and races without actually knowing any of them individually. His anger over the recent resurgence of outspoken racism made him think of the mythic image of the luchador.
