When: Sun., Oct. 25, 7:30 p.m. 2015
This unplugged performance will feature the captivating storytelling style of both musicians as they alternate songs from their respective discographies, which include elements of country, Americana, folk, swing, and rock ‘n’ roll. Since their first tour together in 1989, Lovett and Hiatt have showcased their ability to create a supportive jam session with a dash of humorous banter. Now, in 2015, they join forces again for this special stripped-down acoustic show. Since his 1986 debut album, Lyle Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. His oeuvre, rich and eclectic, is one of the most beloved of any living artist working today. He has broadened the definition of American music by combining his talent for storytelling with elements of many different genres, including Americana, swing, jazz, folk, gospel, and blues. This diversity of musical influences, coupled with his immense vocal and guitar-playing talent, have made Lovett one of the most infectious and fascinating musicians in popular music. John Hiatt’s 22nd studio album, “Terms of My Surrender” (2014), showcases his brilliantly satirical storytelling mastery and aptitude for lyrical expertise. Called “…one of rock’s most astute singer-songwriters of the last 40 years” by the Los Angeles Times, Hiatt has been honored with various awards in the music industry and is a Grammy nominee. Many of his rich and soulful songs have been covered by a diverse range of artists such as Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt (“Thing Called Love”), Iggy Pop, The Jeff Healy Band (“Angel Eyes”), and Rosanne Cash (#1 country hit, “The Way We Make a Broken Heart”).
