- James Edward Striblin is accused of shooting Margarita Navidad, 28, in the head as she shielded Striblin's girlfriend during a deadly case of domestic violence.
U.S. Marshals found James Edward Striblin at a convenience store Wednesday afternoon at the corner of Houston and Walter streets, the San Antonio Express-News reports. Striblin is accused of shooting Margarita Navidad, 28, in the head at 4 a.m. July 22 at the Charles Andrews apartments after Navidad and her friend arrived home from work. Striblin told media that the shooting was self defense, but wouldn't elaborate, according to Kens5.
An arrest warrant affidavit first obtained by the Express-News says Navidad's friend was Striblin's "love interest" and that the man started arguing with the women after they got home from work. According to the affidavit, witnesses told police that when Navidad tried to calm Striblin down he threw the women to the ground and began assaulting them. Then Navidad shielded her friend before being shot once in the head. Striblin then dragged Navidad out of the apartment onto the street where he left her for dead, according to the newspaper. According to a gofundme page set up by Ariana Santana for funeral expenses, Navidad was a loving mother of six children.
This summer has seen several deadly incidents of domestic violence in Bexar County. On June 16, Charles Wayne Haltom stabbed his 29-year-old girlfriend to death before calling police and admitting to the killing. A day later, in another case, a man shot and killed his estranged girlfriend before turning the gun on himself.
