For new mayoral candidate State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, it's far too early to tell whether San Antonio's nondiscrimination ordinance meets the mark or needs work.

"Until we see the statute utilized there's no way to tell," Van de Putte said, adding that a judgment would be premature.

There are currently two complaints filed under the amended ordinance.

But LGBT issues are close to her heart, Van de Putte said, explaining that she attended the San Antonio Gender Association's Transgender Day of Remembrance November 20, the same day she announced her intent to run for mayor.

Van de Putte's aunt, Christie Lee Littleton Van de Putte, was a trans pioneer, known for challenging Texas courts that ruled she couldn't collect a medical malpractice settlement after her husband died.
