Local H settled on the two-man format when attempts at a more conventional lineup failed, and guitarist Scott Lucas devised the strategy of using a bass pickup for his lower guitar strings. Brian St. Clair, a former tech for Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos, joined in 2000, and his kinetic style has elevated the group’s vaunted stage energy.

Lucas is a pop-culture nut with a proclivity for the smart-ass twist on familiar phrases, as evidenced by titles such as “All the Kids Are Right,” “Bryn-Mar Stomp,” and “Hit the Skids: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Rock.” This group has covered Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and even dedicated a song and album title to Rock and Roll High School starlet P.J. Soles. None of this may mean much to fans of Disturbed or Fall Out Boy, but it should ensure a copacetic relationship between Local H and its fans for years to come. •
