Every time she goes home to visit, Callie Enlow does yoga with her mom, a devoted practitioner of the Anusara style. She always surprises her daughter with super-hip yoga music mixes, which she now shares with other Current yoga posers every other week.
This week’s mix is part two of the “soul music” yoga mixes. This time it’s a literal interpretation pulled from soul music from the ’60s and ’70s. I don’t know what it is that makes this genre so good to do yoga to; maybe it’s because the roots are in gospel and inspirational music. Have fun with this one.
Massive Attack “Be Thankful For What You’ve Got” – If you can’t find Curtis Mayfield’s version.
Stevie Wonder “Superwoman” – Or any of his songs.
Aretha Franklin “I Say A Little Prayer,” “Day Dreaming” – Either or both.
Otis Redding “Try a Little Tenderness” – This matches with the yogic concept of “softening” in a pose.
Cake “Never, Never Gonna Give You Up” – The original is by Barry White, which works too.
5th Dimension “Stoned Soul Picnic” – This is just a good time.
