Mutant, one of the most exciting acts in S.A., if you ask us, is dropping an album and heading out on tour — but not before giving the hometown crowd a farewell-for-now dose of its post-apocalyptic medicine. The genre-straddling act, a project from Joseph Caceres of experimental electronic outfit Xry, makes use of vintage tape loops — including some culled from thematically appropriate sci-fi and horror VHS tapes — along with lo-fi sounding electronic implements, to present a moving dystopian vision in sonic form. But the thing about Mutant is that there’s just enough angst and aggression, and just enough pop sensibility, to make the music endlessly listenable. Head on over to mvtant.bandcamp.com to hear for yourself. Crawl and Filthy, likeminded crafters of experimental and punk-infused muck, will provide support. All in all, it should be a great evening of music that won’t remind you in any way of the holiday jams your family will be subjecting you to.
