"Do you believe in the existence of extraterrestrials?"
After 14 years, the beloved '90s series The X-Files is making its return to television this Sunday (FOX, 10pm EST). The miniseries will have six episodes featuring all of your favorite cast members and of course, aliens.
If you've never seen the show — like myself — which originally aired back in 1993, I'll give you a little rundown. The X-Files followed FBI Special agent partners Fox "Spooky" Mulder and Dana Scully as they investigated unsolved, paranormal cases coined the "X-Files." Mulder was a paranoid believer of all things supernatural following the abduction of his sister during early childhood years, while Scully was his exact opposite, applying skepticism and logic to her case-solving rationale.
Throughout the course of its nine seasons, 202 episodes and two feature films, The X-Files has, in every sense of the word, become a cult show. The science fiction premise was revolutionary during its 1993-2002 run, and it incorporated elements of government conspiracy, clones, alien bounty hunters, mythology (and the mytharc) and paranoia into the intricacy of its plot line. There are infinite amounts of X-Files catchphrases and references out there, and the show truly embodied all of the fear and excitement that the 90's were.
Is there any better way to get ready for this Sunday's premiere than binging out to this UFO party on Netflix?
Maar's Pizza (14218 Nacogdoches Road, 210-599-7400) is the perfect pairing to your X-Files revival. Not only does its name hint at extraterrestrial existence, but all of the menu items, including "Alien Fingers," "Fried Mac-N-Cheese" (served with ranch, cry), and "The Moon Pizza" all scream "Out Of This World" — the pizzeria's slogan.
Maar's is a family owned and run establishment, and its otherworldly name was created using the first letter of each family member's name. The pizzeria has a casual, yet upbeat atmosphere, and they carry a variety of food and drink items, although I will say, their "Alien Fingers" and pizzas are the most sought-after. Pies are offered in seven different sizes, feature toppings of brisket, pepperoni, sausage, beef, Canadian bacon, Alfredo sauce, jalapeño juice and more, and can be ordered for dine-in or takeout purposes.
Maar's also serves beer, wine, wine-based blended cocktails and wine-based mixed drinks. The restaurant is closed on Monday's, but has a Happy Hour every other day from 3-7 p.m,. and all day Sunday!
"The truth is out there", and it looks mighty tasty.
