The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo will debut a new cooking competition in February – the Vaquero Cook-Off. Set for February 1-2 at La Villita, the event will run in conjunction with the Western Heritage Parade and Cattle Drive.
The first day will pit challengers against each other cooking Spanish rice, while the second day will have them go head-to-head on charro beans, carne guisada and menudo. Three awards will be given out per category.
Attendees will be able to sample the dishes for free and enjoy live music and vendors throughout the La Villita grounds.
Competitors can register for $370 per team through Friday, December 21. The food fest will run 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, February 1, and noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 2.
