Southtown is getting yet another ice cream place Friday, May 22 as The House (732 S. Alamo) hosts a soft opening from 4 to 9 p.m. Unlike their Italian counterpart, A La Mode Gelato, which had its grand opening Thursday, May 21, The House is adding a lot more booze to their ice cream.
Owner Rob Nickle and daughter Dani Nickle Farmakakis are bringing booze creations to the area inside this narrow shop. Though hours will be limited these next few weeks, ice cream lovers can expect to find four boozy flavors such as a Blue Hawaiian with pineapple, coconut, Blue Curacao and rum; a bourbon vanilla; chocolate amaretto they're naming Aztec; Irish cream; and French Toast, which uses their Cinnamon Toast Crunch-flavored cereal milk with an added dose of Fireball whiskey.
Kid-friendly flavors will also be available, such as the aforementioned cereal milk, plain vanilla (or Best Dip), an Alamode vanilla with crushed Heath bar and mint with chocolate chips.
Nickle and Farmakakis hope to stay open late and will be serving a small beer, cider and wine menu to start, with hopes of adding bespoke cocktails in the future. They expect to host a grand opening of The House on June 5.
