New Restaurants to Try During San Antonio's Restaurant Week


Seasoned food-lovers will want to visit these relatively new joints (some are just weeks old) to expand their culinary horizons — from Peruvian fusion to comfort food.

For $35 you can check out the Pearl's latest eatery through August 27. And if you feel like splurging, the $18 wine add-on isn't too shabby. The menu includes choice of ceviche levante with ginger, garlic, aji amarillo, and beet and potato causa (a type of mash) or Bon-Lai salad of green papaya, cucumber, tomato, carrot and cashews. The choices of mains includes chancho frito and chaufa (crispy cubed pork, edamame, napa cabbage, green onion, corn nuts and anticuchero aioli) or tacu tacu and tokatsu (Japanese-style beef tenderloin malinese, rice and beans cake, katzu glaze and salsa criolla. Desserts include choice of sorbet trio made using Amazonian ruits and topped with a ginger lace tuile or coconut sticky rice with jackfruit syrup and compressed melons.

Lunch at Frank means spending $15 on a Jackalope dog with waffle fries, choice of soda or tea, and chocolate-covered bacon for dessert. Dinner time means a party of two can enjoy a sausage board, choice of large specialty waffle fries, choice of soda or tea and either a Frankencookie or chocolate-covered bacon. Amen to that.

As far as new restaurants that I love go, Grayze is pretty high up there. Be it for its patio, great, but nuanced flavors or chill vibe, it'd behoove most eaters to pay them a visit during restaurant week. The $35 dinner menu includes choice of green gazpacho or Grayze greens; choice of pork croquettes or spicy tofurizo empanada; and choice of porchetta sandwich, chile-dusted gulf shrimp, ramen (add the pork belly for an extra $5) or bison burger. Dessert's not included but you can partake in either the PB...Also J ice cream sandwich or bourbon vanilla ice cream with fried bananas and salted caramel for $5 each.
