It’s not every day a band from San Antonio shows up on Billboard and iTunes charts. Let alone at high positions on them. But upon the release of last year's effort The Stories We Tell Ourselves, San Antonio rockers Nothing More found themselves on some peak positions including No. 5 on the Billboard Top Current Albums Chart Debut, No. 2 on the Billboard Independent Album Debut, and No. 3 on iTunes' Album Debut to name a few.
But it’s not all just good publicity and high-quality production on their albums; the four-piece have been putting in work since 2003 – paying their dues on the local San Antonio live music circuit playing places like Jack’s and The White Rabbit (now Paper Tiger), and touring extensively (new bands take heed). And what also stands out to us for these hometown heroes is that, while they may be procuring national radio airplay (alongside Foo Fighters and Theory of a Deadman), the level of musicianship and dynamic songwriting is undeniable.
Especially on this last album, drummer Ben Anderson, guitarist Mark Vollelunga, vocalist/percussionist Jonny Hawkins, and bassist Daniel Oliver showcase their ability to write contemporary rock ‘n’ roll that’s heavy and heartfelt without sounding corny – a pit many “active rock” bands fall into. The Stories We Tell Ourselves blends technicality, thought-provoking lyrics, and enough pop aesthetic to sound approachable to the casual rock listener all while satiating the ears of folks who fancy the harder end of the music spectrum. To put it simply: it's a dope record, and we're not just saying that 'cause they're from here.
Alongside the national attention they garnered last year the SA rockers managed to secure three Grammy nominations: Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance. The last time that’s happened for a San Antonio band is unknown. Though the guys didn’t bring home any awards, it hasn’t put a dent in their grind.
The guys just announced a tour, which is touching down at the Majestic Theatre on March 23, 2019. According to Loudwire, they are calling the trek "The Truth Tour," which is rooted in the concept that "art and music and the spirit of rock and roll are pure forms of truth that can bring people together, spark new ideas, inspire new ways of thinking and through that, trigger changes in ourselves and in our world."
"Concerts are perfect environments to stimulate the revelation of a truth, an 'Ah-HA!' moment, because we are all sharing the energy of the music and the moments of community and inspiration, moments that can affect a positive change," said vocalist Jonny Hawkins in a press release. "It's not about any one political movement or cause, it's about everybody searching for the truth in all things, and putting that new awareness into action."
Joining the boys on tour are Of Mice and Men with Badflower and Palisades.
General ticket sales will start this Friday at 10 a.m., while specific pre-sale info and VIP options can be found via Nothing More's website.
