To tip or not to tip, that is the question. And as a slew of readers let us know in Facebook and online comments of this week's cover story, "5 Reasons Your Server Hates You," it's very much so a hot-button issue.
Diners won't have to worry about that at Oaks Crossing Bistro and Bar at H-E-B Plus Wilderness Oak (23635 Wilderness Oak), the company's first restaurant and bar, which is serving up BBQ plates and Texas craft beer. The first full-service restaurant at H-E-B discourages diners from tipping. In the restaurant’s first week of service, it made $600 in tips which was donated to the Parman Branch Library. The story, first reported by KENS 5, has already gained national attention with HuffPo and Kitchenette picking up the piece, as one of the area's first efforts to remove tipping from the equation.
To make up for the lost tips, servers are compensated with a "competitive wage," though H-E-B is currently not disclosing that amount. For the time being, there is no sign in the restaurant stating where the tips are going, but management has said they are working on the wording for the signs for the tipping policy.
Wonder if that'll make folks more or less likely to tip?
