Omar Apollo’s forlorn crooning and seductive falsetto have him slated for success and as much fan adoration as he gives the subjects of his music. The Indiana native infuses his bedroom pop with a mixture of old-school soul, funk and R&B grooves on his debut EP Stereo, released earlier this summer. He keeps his love songs from being stale or sticky, with swaggering textures, clever guitar and a peppering of Spanish. It’s as if young Justin Timberlake was lo-fi, Chicano and came of age after Brockhampton and Bruno Mars. Catch him at the Paper Tiger with San Francisco-based introspective R&B and hip-hop artist Rosehardt.
