If you've missed cocktail master Olaf Harmel at his previous nook inside Blue Box Bar, the beloved bartender will now serve as beverage director of Ash, the basement bar found below Smoke The Restaurant's Downtown location (1170E. Commerce St., 210-253-9919).
Joel Neely will serve as bar manager for Ash, which opens Friday, June 3 at 4:20 p.m. (it's a Smoke thing). The bar will open 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily with snacks made by chef Brian West.
"We do not want to brand ourselves as a cocktail bar or a neighborhood bar," said co-owner Adrian Martinez of Smoke and China Garden fame via email. "We simply want to be a GREAT BAR serving amazing drinks in an amazing atmosphere."
But yes, there will be cocktails. According to Martinez, San Anto should get ready.
"The drink menu is one of a kind. I am positive you have never seen anything like this in the nation," he said.
Between both rooms in the downstairs bar, Ash will be able to host 150 people. Music fans can look forward to sets from DJ Donnie Dee on Friday nights and DJ Gibby Diaz on Saturday nights.
Here's a creepy sneak peek of what's to come:
