Pastie Pops and Sexy Guests Ready to Unwrap Annual Christmas Burlesque Show

Tirelessly “bumping and grinding all over the city of San Antonio since 2011,” the bubbly, bodacious, body-positive Pastie Pops burlesque troupe serves up sizzling, seasonal performances that combine classic tease, contemporary interpretations, bawdy comedy, boylesque, drag and fun-loving surprises that hearken to the vaudevillian era.

Comprised of ringleader Jasper St. James (the “big and tall that bares it all”), “living doll” Mary Annette, contemporary tease Elle Du Jour, Vixy Van Hellen (the “bare bottom of Bexar County”) and drag king Mustang Ryder, the Pops have come into their own in recent years — picking up top honors in our Best of San Antonio readers’ poll and upping their game with fully staged shows while maintaining an approachable, intimate presence at their Southtown base, Sexology Institute. A tradition initiated at Boneshakers circa 2011, the Pops’ annual Christmas Burrr-lesque Show is set to deck the halls of the Aztec Theatre with a racy revue set to live music by Alyson Alonzo & The Romantics.

“There is something to be said about performing to live music,” St. James told the Current. “It allows for us as performers to get more personal with our audience and really feel the music with our bodies. It also gives the audience a glimpse of what a burlesque show may have felt like back in the 1940s and ’50s.”

Concocted in the vintage-inspired vein of Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, the yuletide spectacle combines old-school Christmas favorites, “sultry jazz versions” of hits such as “Toxic” by Britney Spears, “Oh! Darling” by The Beatles and “Criminal” by Fiona Apple, all-new props and costumes, the comedic stylings of emcee Camille Toe (“the one you want to pick”), fan favorites like St. James’ “Milk and Cookies for Santa” routine, and performances by Seattle-based “mermaid queen” Lucy Lips and special guest headliner Medianoche — a New York-based stunner who’s been dubbed “Sin in an Hourglass” and crowned Miss Exotic World and Queen of Burlesque at the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas last year.

$20-$50, Fri Dec. 7, doors at 7pm, show at 8pm, Aztec Theatre, 104 N. St. Mary’s St., (210) 812-4355,
