It’s time again for your quarterly dose of wit and wisdom from local luminaries. Since 2011, San Antonio’s chapter of PechaKucha (Japanese for “chit-chat”) has provided a uniquely vibrant space for all manner of accomplished and passionate folks to share their interests, expertise and secrets. The PechaKucha format, first developed in Japan back in 2003 by Klein Dytham Architecture, is beautifully simple: eight presenters get 20 slides each, which are each shown for only 20 seconds, for a total of six minutes and 40 seconds per presentation. The pacing and brevity of the presentations force presenters to whittle away at their material until only the most important elements are left. For the audience, the format allows for easy digestion of material and decreases opportunities for boredom. San Antonio’s 22nd PechaKucha Night brings together activist and vegan restaurateur Rebecca “Rebel Mariposa” Lopez (pictured), Kristal Cuevas (“yogipreneur” at Southtown Yoga Loft), Armand A. Fermin (Army medic), Peter French (entrepreneur and community builder), Omar Gonzalez (Hemisfair director of real estate), Sam Lerma (filmmaker and educator), Elaine Kearney (landscape architect at TGB Partners) and Jeff Moore (cyclist and systems analyst).
