Pick of the Day: Ali Wong

ali wong

Scoring San Francisco Weekly’s “Best Comedian of 2009” and the San Francisco Bay Guardian’s “Best of the Bay” awards was all the encouragement comic Ali Wong needed to leave the Bay for L.A. Judging from acting roles (playing a hacker in Oliver Stone’s Savages and portraying Chelsea Handler’s BFF Olive on the NBC sitcom Are You There, Chelsea?), lists (including Variety’s coveted 10 Comics to Watch), and appearances (The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and E!’s 50 Super Epic TV Moments), the move paid off. In an LA Weekly Q&A titled “Ali Wong: L.A.’s Raunchiest Vietnamese-Chinese-American Standup Comic,” the “cutesy-pie potty mouth” described her style as “naughty Oprah” and claimed people think she looks like Pikachu. Wong plays LOL this week with support from Slade Ham. $15; 8pm Thu, Sep 27; Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club, 618 NW Loop 410, (210) 541-8805, Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here:
