Pick of the Day: "Dub & Sports Politics"

Mash Up

Taking a cue from the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver’s Mixed Taste — a lecture format that challenges experts to find common ground between such disparate topics as “Wittgenstein and Hula Dancing,” or “Nietzsche and Puppies, Puppies, Puppies!” — the McNay inaugurated its own Mash-Up Lecture Series in June with “Sous-vide & Indigo.” On Thursday, local mixed-media artist Justin Boyd and UT Austin professor Dr. Leonard Moore explore potential relationships between “Dub & Sports Politics.” After Boyd (whose past works include the sound-equipped sculptural installation Dubforms) sheds light on dub music and Moore (who’s conducted research on “the intersection of race, sport, and hip-hop”) discusses the careers of Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan, both will field questions from the audience.
