Still waiting for that invite? It's probably not coming, so just bite the bullet and consider something off this shortlist of happenings (some clearly better than others) for your last-ditch New Year's Eve options. And watch out for the Playboy models with champagne-filled Super Soakers – that one sounds filthy.
Rooftop at the Cameo
After the theater's 8 p.m. production of Cats, you can catch a view of the downtown fireworks from the Cameo's downtown rooftop party at 113 E. Commerce. For more info call (210) 212-5454, or go to cameocenter.com.
Floore's Country Store
If you want to get outside 1604, country group Two Tons of Steel will headline Floore's New Year's Eve bash. $20 advance/ $25 @ the door; 7pm; 14492 Old Bandera Rd, (210) 695-8827, liveatfloores.com.
Downtown, on the River Walk, but not so River Walk-ey, Ocho's got something a little more intimate and interesting for NYE. Tickets include a couple of cocktails, sparkling wine and sangria all night long, hors d'oeuvres, a buffet featuring a whole suckling pig. Plus, live music by Colao. $150 per person; $250 per couple; 1015 Navarro, (210) 222-2008, havanasanantonio.com.
If you want to get far outside 1604, Texas Country artist Stoney LaRue headlines the party at this New Braunfels venue. Plan on wrapping the night early. Gruene rings in the New Year at 11 p.m., since New Braunfels law (absurdly) prohibits public alcohol consumption past midnight. $65; 8pm; 1281 Gruene, (830) 606-1281, gruenehall.com.
Block Party at Boneshakers
In a pinch, we honestly prefer staying closer to la gente at Boneshakers. Bands for the night include Los Nahuatlatos, Los De Esta Noche, King Pelican, and a bunch of others. They've always got something tasty on tap, plus you can hop on the Hays Street Bridge at midnight for a killer view of the downtown fireworks. 306 Austin, (210) 319-8155, boneshakersonline.com.
Revelations at Backstage Live
Beer pong and Playboy models should make New Years Eve at Backstage Live … well, interesting. DJs Bare and Alex Pace will provide music, along with San Anto Bands Relapse and Bexar TRAP. A night complete with go-go dancers and champagne-filled Super Soakers, in case you wanna get drunk and messy. $20 general admin; 1305 E Houston, (210) 698-2856, backstagelivesa.com.
Disco at Club Rio
They've still got some "VIP" balcony packages left – 2 bottles of liquor, Dom Perignon, and 10 VIP tickets – if you've got no plans but feel like dropping some serious coin. Otherwise, tickets are $15 a pop. 13307 US 281 N, (210) 403-2582, club-rio.net.
At Brass Monkey's "Happy Ending" party, you can dance into 2013 to 1980s tunes courtesy of DJ Eddie … which just about sounds like any other night at Brass Monkey. But hey, no cover. And you're desperate, remember? 2701 N. Saint Mary's, (210) 584-0103.
