Over-the-top hallmarks of Fiesta, Coronation gowns first stepped into the spotlight during the inaugural Crowning of the Queen of the Order of the Alamo back in 1909. While the Coronation itself remains an elite affair (Wed, Arp. 25 at the Majestic Theatre), the elaborately beaded (and impossibly heavy) gowns and trains can be experienced in a slightly less-imposing atmosphere at the Witte. Switching up the format this year, the museum is scattering its annual exhibition of Coronation gowns into an array of pop-up displays complemented by Fiesta posters through the years.
