The inaugural event to ignite DJ Proper Yarn's First Monday series at Hi-Tones will kick off with Waco's Loafers, recording on the Burger offshoot of Wiener Records. Loafers keep 21st Century cassette culture kicking with sounds that can be described as a fusion between the lo-fi pop of Daniel Johnston and the garage punk of Black Lips.

Joining Loafers is SA's Junkie and Kill Liberal. Sounding like a garage soaked in the stench of weed and weed-inspired reverb pedals, Junkie shows off the mellow side of garage rock while maintaining the characteristic blurry daze. If a hardcore punk went on a cruise to Jamaica to bathe in the rich tones of reggae, the result would sound like ska-punkers Kill Liberal. $3, 9pm, Hi-Tones, 621 E Dewey, (210) 785-8777.
